Rules & Regulations

The Hopewell Quarry is committed to providing a safe, clean and orderly environment for season pass holders and day guests alike.

The following are rules and regulations which we believe are consistent with that commitment:

Quarry Access

The Quarry is a natural, spring-fed body of water that averages 30 feet in depth. At Hopewell Quarry, your well-being is paramount. While we have diligent lifeguards on duty, we also uphold stringent safety regulations for quarry access. These measures are in place to safeguard the welfare of our valued staff, patrons, and local wildlife.

To maintain a secure environment, we have established several guidelines:

Non-Swimmer Policy: For the safety of all visitors, individuals who are unable to swim are not permitted in the quarry, regardless of the use of flotation devices.

Age Restriction: Children under the age of 7 are not allowed in the quarry, regardless of their ability to swim or use flotation devices.

Quarry Swim Test: Individuals under the age of 18 must successfully pass the quarry swim test upon arrival. The test entails:

- Swimming approximately 80 yards using the crawl or breaststroke strokes proficiently

- Treading water for 3 minutes near the lifeguard stand, ensuring the chin remains above water level without leaning the head back. We say, “Wear the water like a necklace!”

Completion of both components, as instructed by the administering Lifeguard, qualifies the swimmer. Once passed, their name will be recorded, and re-testing is unnecessary for subsequent visits.

***Please note, re-testing on the same day is not permitted.***

Dedicated Pool for Swimmers/ Non-Swimmers: Additionally, we offer a large concrete swimming pool with depths ranging from 1 ½ to 4 feet. This area provides a safe environment for individuals who are still building their swimming skills.

By adhering to these guidelines, we aim to create a secure and enjoyable experience for all visitors at Hopewell Quarry.

In the QUARRY, there will be NO:

● Rocking, pushing, or wrestling on the tubes or rafts

● Jumping onto or diving through tubes

● Swimming near cliffs, under diving boards or rafts

● Tubes on rafts (as this creates a barrier our lifeguards cannot see around)

● Frisbees or balls on the raft closest to the buoy-line in the Quarry

● Offensive language

● Sitting or hanging on diving boards

● More than 1 person on the diving boards at a time

● Non-swimmers on quarry apron, steps or on diving boards

Please Do:

● Report any violations

● Swim at your own risk

● Use the buddy system

● Swim away from diving board after diving or jumping

● Check that the area below the board is clear before going off

The Hopewell Quarry reserves the right to refuse admittance into the swimming facility when the capacity of the pool has been reached or when otherwise deemed necessary for the health, welfare or safety of its patrons.

If these rules are not observed, the Quarry reserves the right to request the immediate departure (without refund) of an individual or group and may cancel the season pass of the patron or patrons.
